Damien Oliver, Corey Brown and Chris Symons will all be missing from the jockeys’ room on the final day on the Melbourne Cup Carnival after incurring careless riding suspensions at Flemington on Tuesday.
Oliver will miss the ride on Albert The Fat in Saturday’s Group One Emirates Stakes and Bauer in the Group Three Queen Elizabeth Stakes after stewards penalised him 12 meetings at an adjourned inquiry from the Victoria Derby.
Stewards found that his mount Sabrage shifted out and made contact with Scelto near the 600 metres which resulted in Eagle Command being checked.
Oliver argued that Hugh Bowman contributed the incident on Sangster who was on his outside, which stewards conceded, but deemed the interference to be in the mid-range and suspended him from midnight on Oaks Day.
He will be free to ride again on November 15.
Brown felt the heat of the stewards with a 14-meeting suspension for his ride on third-placed Lucas Cranach in the Melbourne Cup.
Brown was found guilty of shifting ground on Lucas Cranach turning out of the home straight which resulted in Tullamore and Hawk Island both suffering interference.
Stewards rated the incident in the high range and Brown’s suspension starts after Oaks Day and expires at midnight on November 16.
Symons was outed for nine meetings for his ride on And Rock in Tuesday’s Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m).
Symons pleaded guilty to shifting in on Princess Layla which was taken across Shadow Mist which was checked severely.
Symons will ride Oaks Day and returns on Sandown Classic Day on November 12.
